Isis Camacho
Teacher, San Juan Elementary, Capistrano Unified School District
Isis received her Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Teaching Credential from Hope International University in
Fullerton, CA.  She is currently pursuing her administrative credential and Masters in Educational Leadership from
California State University, Fullerton.  Her teaching experience includes 7 years in education at San Juan Elementary.  She
is currently teaching Kindergarten in the Two Way Immersion program.  She also serves as Grade level leader and
Elementary Teaching Assistant Principal.  Her interests include all aspects of Two Way Immersion and English Language
Development.   In her spare time she likes to either spend time at home with family or at the beach on a nice day.

Leo Compean
Social Science Teacher, STAP 1, Dana Hills High School, Capistrano Unified School District
Leo Compean received both, his B.A. in History and his Social Science credential from California State University,
Fullerton. He is currently pursuing his administrative credential and Masters in Educational Leadership from California State
University, Fullerton. His professional experience includes five years of teaching history and psychology at Dana Hills High
School. Leo is also involved in coaching, including two years of swim and nine years of soccer. Outside of the classroom,
Leo enjoys spending time with his wife and six-month-old son, Tommy.

Jaime Garman
School Counselor, Dana Hills High School
Jaime Garman received her M.A. in counseling with a P.P.S. credential in school counseling from the University of San
Diego and her B.A. from San Diego State University in sociology with an emphasis in social problems and a minor in social
work. Her school site experience includes 3 years at Dana Hills High School as an AB1802 Intervention Counselor and
one year at an elementary (K-3) school in the Solana Beach School District. Prior to these experiences she worked in non-
profit organizations within educational programs. Her current research for her masters project includes Hispanic student
involvement, achievement and their sense of school connection. Jaime spends most of her free time with her husband
chasing their 2 year old daughter.

Robert Gerbosi
6th gr. math/science teacher & Secondary Teaching Asst Prin (STAP), Newhart MS, Capistrano USD
Robert Gerbosi graduated from Sonoma State University with a degree in criminology and a minor in sociology.  He
completed his teaching credential in 1996 at National University.  Robert has worked in Capistrano Unified School district
since 1996, starting as a site based resident substitute and then becoming a math and science teacher.  For the last three
years he has been assisting up in the office as a half-time teaching assistant principal.  Robert has been married for 9 years
and has two young sons.  During his free time he likes to camp, spend time on the beach, and hang out with his family.

Mike Hulse
Mr. Hulse began teaching at Dana Hills in 2001.  Since starting at DHHS, Mr. Hulse has taught nearly every subject in the
history department.  He began teaching AP US History in 2002.  Mr. Hulse graduated from Dana Hills in 1996 and went
on to graduate from UC Irvine with a degree in political science.  Mr. Hulse also received his teaching credential from UC
Irvine and is currently working on a Master’s Degree in Education at Cal State Fullerton.  Mr. Hulse lives in San Clemente
with his wife Valerie and his two children, Johnathan and Abigail.

Ryan Ortiz
Elem. SpEd Teacher, ETAP 1 (elementary teacher as assistant principal), Capistrano USD
Ryan received her dual Bachelors of Science degree from Texas Christian University in Elementary Education and Special
Education.  She then earned a Masters degree in Special Education from Texas Christian University.  After completing her
degrees she started teaching in Huntington Beach City School District in an SDC Class.  She worked in that district for 3
years before changing districts to Capistrano Unified.  For the past 5 years she has been working in a specialized program
called TLC (Teaming for the Learning of All Children).  This next year, she will run a regular RSP program but incorporate
RTI (Response to Intervention) into her program.  Ryan enjoys spending time with her 6 month old son, Jackson, and
husband, Jaime, as well as participating in Stroller Strides.

Jose Luis "Pepe" Pedraza
Elementary Teacher Assistant Principal, Las Palmas Elementary
Pepe received his Bachelors Degree in Liberal Studies at California State University, Fullerton. He has been teaching for 7
years in 5th and 2nd grade with Santa Ana Unified School District and currently at Capistrano Unified. Pepe is involved in
various school leadership committees including: Management team, grade level lead, leadership team and serves as the
school's English Language Development Advisor. He enjoys watching and playing sports. Pepe is a die-hard Dodger and
Laker fan. Spending time with his wife and three children is what he enjoys most.

Valerie Petty
Music Teacher, Capistrano Unified School District
Valerie Petty received her California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Music with a CLAD certification and a BM in
Music Education from the University of Southern California. She is currently pursuing her administrative credential and
Masters in Educational Leadership from California State University, Fullerton.  Her experience includes 12 years of
teaching instrumental music at Newhart Middle School, the manager of the CUSD Middle School Honor Band or
Orchestra groups for 5 years, as well as 3 years as elective department chair at her school.  Outside of teaching, Valerie
has been happily married for 9 years and has two beautiful daughters.

Kathleen R. Purcell
Education Specialist Mild/Moderate, Aliso Niguel High School/ CUSD
Ms. Purcell received her M.S. in Special Education from National University; her Clear Teaching Credential in
Mild/Moderate Special Education from National University; her B.A. in English Literature from California State University,
Long Beach.  Ms. Purcell has 14 years experience in education including: instructional assistant, teaching students with
emotional disturbances for 4 years at both the NPS and public school level, and teaching 8 years at Aliso Niguel High
School.  She is beginning her 6th year as Department Chair at ANHS, and her 2nd year as S-TAP.  Areas of interest
within her field: Career Preparation and Social Skills for the autistic student.  Areas of interest outside education: three adult
(so they think) sons, volunteering with foster youth, & travel.

Nate Ritscher
Physics Teacher, Dana Hills High School
Nate Ritscher received his B.A. in History from Wittenberg University in Springfield, OH.  He has been a Physics teacher
for the last ten years, first at Garden Grove High School and then (for the past three years) Dana Hills High School.  He is
married, with two children (ages 5 and 7), and resides in Trabuco Canyon.  His hobbies and interests include outdoor
activities like camping and hiking, woodworking, and sports.  

Lauren Robinson      
8th Grade GATE English Teacher, Activities Dir., & Secondary Asst Teaching Capistrano USD
Lauren Robinson received her Bachelors of Liberal Arts and Sciences through San Diego State University.  She is
currently attending California State University, Fullerton and is working to obtain her Master in Education and a preliminary
Administration Credential.  She has worked as the accelerated English teacher for the past five years as a member of the
8th grade English team and also has experience teaching English language support classes.  Additionally, Lauren has been
actively involved in enhancing school culture and climate as Newhart’s Activities Director and has recently taken on the
position of Secondary Teaching Assistant Principal.  Lauren is outgoing, enthusiastic and dedicated to teaching all levels of
learners.  Her interests include world travel, sports, and spending quality time with her family and friends.

Carrie C. Smith
Counselor, formerly at Junipero Serra Continuation HS, Capo Unified
Carrie received her BA in psychology, with a minor in speech and hearing sciences, from UC Santa Barbara.  After an
internship in school counseling, she went on to get her MS in counseling and PPS credential from CSU Long Beach.  She
is currently pursuing her preliminary administrative credential at CSU Fullerton.  Carrie has been a school counselor for 6
years.  She started as a middle school counselor at Costa Mesa High School, then moved up to head high school
counselor.  She continued to broaden her experiences at Junipero Serra Continuation High School, working with at risk
students.  Due to a RIF she is currently unemployed. In her spare time Carrie enjoys cooking with her husband and running
on the beach with her dog.

Alma M. Uminsky
Teacher, Tesoro High School, Capistrano Unified School District
Alma has a B.A. and an M.S. from California State University Bakersfield. In 2001 she was selected as a curriculum
trainer of Language Arts for Sacramento County Office of Education.  During the summer Alma travels to different districts
to help teachers to understand the State Standards as they are covered in the L.A. adoptions.  Alma is the Advisor for
Tesoro High School's English Learners and has encouraged parents to actively participate in both the ELAC and DELAC
Committees. Alma's  Spanish Language Skills have also allowed her to help  AP students to succeed in the AP Language
and AP Literature Exams.   Alma's  most relaxing time is spent reading a good book.

Michelle Voss
Music Teacher (Vocal), Newhart Middle School, CUSD
Michelle Voss received her B.A. in Music Education from California State University, Fullerton. With over 15 years of
experience in both public and private educational settings, she currently serves as the vocal music teacher for Newhart
Middle School in Mission Viejo and as the Director of Music Ministries for Beatitudes Of Our Lord Catholic Church in La
Mirada. She is also pursuing her administrative credential and Master’s in Education Leadership from California State
University, Fullerton. Her interests include music performance, art, travel, Hawaiian dance and culture, and the great

Kory Wentzel
4th/5th grade Block Music Teacher, multiple sites, Capistrano Unified School District
Kory Wentzel received his B.A. in Music Education from UCLA. Kory is currently pursuing a Masters in Educational
Leadership and an administrative credential from California State University Fullerton . He has taught for the past 15 years
in the elementary block music program in the Capistrano Unified School District.  Outside of teaching, he enjoys spending
time with his three-year old son Jack.

Josh Wish
Instructor/ Academy Director Capistrano Unified School District
Josh received his M.A. from Roosevelt University in Chicago, and his B.S. from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL.
He has taught both Junior High and High School for the past 11 years in California, Arizona, and Illinois. His first 6 years
were spent teaching History, while the last 5 have been spent teaching Automotive Technology. Josh currently serves as the
director of the Automotive Technology Partnership Academy at San Clemente High School, where students engage in an
intensive 3 year automotive program as part of a small learning community in order to be prepared for careers in a variety
of vocation fields. Prior to moving to California, he spent 3 years living and teaching on the White Mountain Apache
Reservation in Arizona.
